DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE, FOOD AND THE MARINE
Department of Agriculture Food and the Marine (DAFM)
Research and innovation are central to the realisation of these goals and DAFM invests significantly to support research and innovation in the areas of soils, biodiversity, water and air quality, sustainable crop and animal production, climate change adaptation and mitigation, bioeconomy, agri-digitalisation and innovative and sustainable food processing and manufacturing. Research, supported by DAFM, is crucial to the development and delivery of government policy and is fundamental in meeting national targets linked to EU and international obligations.
DAFM funds directly and collaboratively with other Government departments and agencies across the island of Ireland in a coordinated, multi-actor approach to support and develop research capital domestically. DAFM also provides support for research and innovation partnerships within the EU and internationally and is actively involved in a number Joint Programming Initiatives (JPIs), European Joint Programmes (EJPs), the Global Research Alliance (GRA) and has contributed actively to Horizon 2020.
DAFM will continue to play an important role at the cutting edge of European research activities as they evolve under Horizon Europe and support science-based innovation in the agri-food sector and bio-economy for the benefit of communities and lives nationally and internationally.
