About Green Musketeer

In “Green Musketeer”, we follow inventor Pieter Hoff. Pieter's mission is to plant 2 billion hectares of trees on degraded land. He wants to tackle excessive water consumption, fight climate change and tackle the food problem at all costs. He is convinced that this should be possible with his inventions, 2 “intelligent buckets”, and plant trees without irrigation.

With his borderless optimism, he is trying to revolutionise the world's driest regions. In the setting of desolate landscapes of China, Tibet, Dubai and Mexico, we walk with him to see how he lives for his dream.

In this portrait, you can see his enormous drive, in everything he does. Until the shock comes that there are no more treatments for metastatic cancer. Will he still be able to realise his dream?

The contrast of the simplicity of his ideas, versus the complexity of the problems he faces, creates a beautifully layered film. He dares to go against the grain with his way of thinking, and knows how to make people enthusiastic. By following Pieter, we also see the “mechanisms” that hold back solutions for a greener world. It leads to great frustration for many, but our protagonist continues where others gave up.

After the film there will be a discussion where panel members reflect on the it. This will include Prof Dr. Ir. Erwin Bulte (Development Economics), Dr. Ir. Madelon Lohbeck (Forest Ecology and Forest Management), Dirk Sijbersma (NGO Dorcas) and Wout Hoff (Groasis). They will engage in discussions with the audience, led by Dr Ir. Maarten Voors.
